The famous Brimfield Antiques and Flea Market Shows, celebrating its 50th anniversary in Brimfield, Mass., got underway Sept. 8 and will run until Sept. 13

Brimfield.com Owner Bill Simonic tells us that the "largest outdoor antique show in the country" starts at daybreak and runs until sundown each day with the core of the event running from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Somonic adds that he expects 450,000 people to attend, and 3,500 to 4,500 dealers to sell their merchandise on the 100 acres that span both sides of Route 20.

The scene here is always spectacular when the small, sleepy central Massachusetts town of Brimfield comes to life three times a year with this event. The May event is the largest of the three events (the other show takes place in July), according to Simonic. The fall event is especially pleasant, however, as often there is a feeling of autumn in the air! It's a great time to travel to central Massachusetts and the rest of New England.

The Brimfield Antiques and Flea Market has come a long way since 1959, when, says Simonic, 67 dealers sold their goods in a large field behind the home of Brimfield antique show founder Gordon S. Reid, Sr.
