Everyone loves a great, flavorful pie, but how about a "natural" version that tastes every bit as good as the commonly purchased commercial hydrogenated, artificially-flavored brands?
Andrea DiReda Taber, a former career nurse, started the Ever So Humble Pie Company in East Walpole, Mass., in 2002, and ever since then the business has been incredibly "fruitful" around New England, and beyond. She focuses on making pies the old-fashioned way: sourced from local New England farms and with no monosodium glutamate, trans fats, hydrogenated oils (trans fats) and other unhealthy chemicals. Some of her best pies include raspberry nectarine, "Squmpkin" (sugar pumpkins and winter squash) and orange pineapple as well as "Jumble Berry." The "Jumble Berry" is like a local farmer's market "greatest hits" package with tart Cape Cod cranberries, wild blueberries, strawberries and oranges.
The Ever So Humble Pie Company is located at 153 Washington St., East Walpole, MA (Tel. 508-660-9731). Pies are available at many local farms in the Boston area.
